Why Pray?
While prayer is not the only thing we do, we believe it is the most important thing we do. We pray because of two foundational truths.
God is worthy.
The only enduring motivation for prayer is that God is worthy to be sought. Prayer begins with God, not with us. As we pray, we intentionally seek His face through praise, recognizing that His glory is the ultimate purpose of our praying. We do not come to God merely because we need something from Him; we come because He is worthy of our worship, devotion, and attention.
We are needy.
At the same time, prayer is an acknowledgment of our complete dependence on God. If we are honest, we will echo the words of the psalmist: "As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!"
We believe that as we seek His face, He is ready and willing to open His hand and care for the needs of His people. Prayer reminds us that we were never meant to live independently of God, but in continual reliance upon Him.
